It's hard to keep up with everything that's happening in the world of magic. Fortunately for you we know all and see all - but tell very little and understand even less. (Unlike some of your friends who know very little and are more than happy to tell you so.) Join us, and you too can have the appearance of omniscience without having to do any actual, you know, studying.
When you subscribe to the Wunderground Newsletter you'll find out about special programs and classes at the shop, you'll also find out about performance events around the metro area, and most importantly you'll find out about the Secret Sales.
We've reproduced some of the back issues of the Wunderground Newsletter here for your reading pleasure. The pictures have been removed to conserve space, but I'm sure if you want them we can find them, just ask.

Wundrous Apparition Provided by Magician
It's almost a new year, and that means it's almost a new month, and that means almost a First Tuesday Magic Class! Does anyone else get as excited about this as me? (Besides Dave, of course.) Parade of Wunders
I love a parade. If you love a parade too, this is your chance to be part of a classic. Take to the streets and be the envy of the adoring crowds as you experience the excitement and spectacle of the Clawson Fourth of July Parade with The Mighty Wunderground Street Performers and Rubber Chicken Wranglers. We'll be spreading good cheer, handing out free magic wands, performing magic, and maybe even juggling some rubber chickens. You never know what else might happen.

Hardcore Pawn Stars of Wunder
I'm not sure whether you watch Hardcore Pawn or happened to catch the May 10 episode. Tim at Wunderground West was "kind" enough to show it to me. After viewing the episode, I was pretty devastated. To be fair, George had warned me that they'd make me look foolish, but I went in with the attitude that "any publicity is good publicity." Wow was I wrong! Read on for more.

On the Lamb for Easter

Driving Blind Aftermath
Disaster struck today at Wunderground Magic, Inc. in downtown Clawson when a blindfolded driver plowed through an army of what appeared to be six foot tall magical white rabbits, but turned out just to be out of work magicians dressed in giant bunny suits.

Driving Blind Secret Sale
Don't forget that George Tait will be driving a car while blindfolded in the city of Clawson tomorrow at noon. George Clooney will also be in Clawson tomorrow shooting a movie, though he won't be wearing a blindfold. (You'll be able to easily recognize him. He'll be the one without the blindfold.) And me, I'm too dignified for blindfolds, so I'll be wearing a giant white fuzzy bunny suit instead and letting drivers speed toward me with their vision obscured. (The things I'll do to entertain you.)

Predictions for the Coming Storm
The good news is that I don't have to change the picture to the right from last month's newsletter. The bad news is that I don't have to change the picture to the right from last month's newsletter. Can you believe we're scheduled to get 10-18 inches of snow starting tomorrow night? That's taller than the magic gnomes that work in the dreaded Wunderground dungeons, even if you measure to the tips of their red, pointy hats. I don't know about you, but I'm planning on getting a copy of Bobo, a stack of half dollars, and locking myself in a heated cave until Glain realizes I'm missing and plows me out.

Can you believe it? We're in the middle of the worst blizzard so far this year, and it's only January. I'm typing as fast as I can so you'll have a chance to read this before the Internet freezes up. If you don't get it today, wait until spring when your mail thaws and then read it again. It might make more sense after you've had a chance to warm up to the jokes.

Frankly, I can't remember (and Marie will vouch for this) what I was doing last week, let alone last year. Celebrate National Magic Month Wunderground
October is National Magic Month. What are you doing to celebrate? The tradition grew out of the celebration of the anniversary of Houdini's death here in Detroit on October 31, 1926. It expanded to a week, and then to the entire month of October. Of course, here at Wunderground Magic it's magic all year and we never get tired of celebrating.

Around the Wunderground
Next month, October, is National Magic Month and October 31 is National Magic Day because Houdini died at 1:26 PM on October 31 in 1926 right here in metro Detroit. We were thinking of doing something special, but we were all tied up and couldn't get out of it. (If only there were a type of magic that specialized in such things.) Look for upcoming special events and opportunities for celebration throughout the month.

Magical Mental Blocks Party
It's a party, and you're invited! On Saturday September 11, the Downtown Development Authority of Clawson presents its annual Block Party from 4pm – 8 pm. There will be games and entertainment and bands and magic in the streets of Clawson. This year we will be offering more games, more entertainment, and a pie eating contest. You can either come as you are, wear a rabbit suit, clown costume, or be really outrageous in your favorite kilt. (Guess which one I'll be wearing.)

We Ain't Afraid of No Street Closings
While most cities are rolling out the carpet to welcome new businesses, Clawson is going to close its streets - first to have a parade on July 5th, then again July 10th to show a free movie, and then yet again August 14th for a car show. I know it's a terrible inconvenience for the people who can't take the interstates that go right by us in every single direction, but this is a city built on entertainment. It's more important that you enjoy yourself while you're here than actually be able to get through to Troy or Birmingham or wherever you're really going.
Hello, I'm Paul from Wunderground Magic where we're trying to revisit those heady days of yore when people came to Clawson for the "pleasure palace" atmosphere (only now we have craft brewers rather than bathtub gin.) I'm going to be on the streets with the Mighty Wunderground Street Performers and Rubber Chicken Wranglers the evening of July 10 for Cinema in the streets. It promises to be a spectacular extravaganza of magical entertainment followed by a free showing of the original Ghostbusters movie. Then the next morning I'll be over at the Clawson City Park for the Farmer's Markets on July 11. If you can't see me live, and are lucky enough to own a television, I'll be taping a show on July 8 that will be aired (cabled) later this month. Watch this space for details.

School's out! Magic's in!
A big "thank you" to everyone who came out to see me perform at the Black Lotus as part of Touring the Town on Tuesdays this past month. I had a lot of fun and the good fortune to perform for you without a display case in the way. The next opportunity you have to see me perform live (outside of the shop, of course) will be at the Clawson Farmer's Markets on June 6, July 11, July 25, and August 8. It's a great chance to get fresh food and see a magic show. That way if you don't like the show, there will be plenty of ripe tomatoes nearby.

May Flowers Bring Back Wunder
Well my car finally died. It was older than my son, and he's in college now (which I'm sure contributed something to the reason the car died, but let's not go there.) I appreciate everyone who drove by and laughed as I used to struggle to get it up to its top speed of eight miles an hour (downhill) as I valiantly tried to make it to the shop by opening bell in the morning. The problem was that I had to start out before the store closed the previous night in order to get here on time, so I was chronically late. (And you thought I was just lazy.)

May Newsletter 1
If you've never seen us perform live (having missed the opportunity to come into the magic shop practically any day of the week for 360 days out of the year) I will be appearing on Tuesdays this month at The Black Lotus Brewing Company. For those of you who haven't made it to a magic performance because of the travel distance, Black Lotus is almost fifty feet closer to you (at the northeast corner of Fourteen Mile and Main, rather than the southwest corner) which should reduce your commute time by several seconds at least. Come to Clawson in May for meal and drink specials, take in a magic performance, and discover the wunder of conjuring in Clawson.

Wunderground is 39 years old on April 1! To celebrate we added graphics to our emails. I know it's a lot to take in at once, so you may want to set this aside and lie down a bit until your eyes adjust to the fancy lights, spectacular colors, and really awful jokes. Wunderground with the Groundhog
Can you believe that tomorrow is Groundhog Day? It seems like just yesterday…and the day before. Do you think it counts as not seeing his shadow if he’s too cold to even stick his nose out the door to look? My girlfriend has been dropping hints about “that important holiday coming up in February,” and honestly I’ve never seen anyone that excited about groundhogs before. Maybe she means President’s Day or Mardi Gras?

Wunderful New Year
Happy New Year! Hope you had a wonderful holiday season filled with magic and happiness. I just returned my son to college, thought about taking down the tree, and then filled the car with enough salt, shovels, and sweaters to make it through January. This winter, if you see a broken down, rusted out red car with the driver burning snow shovels and sweaters to stay warm, stop by and say “Hello.”

Yuletide Wunderground
Someone pointed out to me that, not only are we the best magic shop in Oakland County, but we’re also the worst magic shop in Oakland County. So, we’re working hard to improve our image. We hope someday to aspire to become the most mediocre magic shop in Oakland County. I’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, we appreciate your reviews – good, bad, or indifferent.
