Foolishness

March 20, 2008

Hi, this is Paul from the vast and mysterious Wunderground Magic Empire, bringing you the latest in magic, juggling, and novelty items.

IT WAS TWENTY YEARS AGO TODAY...

Well, actually it was 37 years ago on April Fool's Day 1971 that Charlie Romig founded a store where magicians and jugglers could finally come together in peace. Since that time we've been through a lot together: the great moves, the great Wunderground renaming, the great flood, the great realization that literally being underground probably wasn't such a great idea, the great opening of the second store, and the mysterious third store that sank into the swamp. (At least that's the way I heard it.)

To celebrate, we're foolishly marking down prices on select items by 37%. For one day only, on April 1, you'll be able to purchase select puzzles, games, and magic equipment at prices comparable to what they were back in 1971. (Who knows, you may even be buying some of Charlie's original props.) At least two cases of merchandise will be set aside, but these are limited quantities, and there will be no rain checks so get here early (though not before the store opens, because there's really no good place to camp out.) There will be many surprises throughout the day, so come out and wish us a happy birthday.

This event will only be at the Wunderground shop in Clawson, but Wunderground West will be one month old, so get over there and congratulate Tim too!

ADULT MAGIC WORKSHOP

It turns out that April Fool's Day is also the first Tuesday of the month, and that means it's time for another adult magic workshop. Originally we were just going to demonstrate and give away all of the magic left after the sale, but Dave talked me out of it and said, "Wouldn't it be even better if we taught everyone how to make their own magic props, so they never need to buy anything from the store again?" Well, being the astute businessman I am, I immediately jumped at the chance to give away the store for a mere $20 lesson. So, the April workshop will cover how to make magic at home. (Of course, unless you live in a Winnebago, you may want to leave your home at home. Just bring yourself, we supply all the necessary props.)

PERFORMERS CLASSES

Tom Dickerson, who is even more foolish than I am, graciously agreed to donate several large illusions and props on the condition that they never be sold. I told him that I rarely sell anything anyway, so that's really not a problem. Once they are fixed up, these illusions will be available to the students in our magic performers classes.

If you'd like to help repair the props or join our performer's classes, give us a call at the store. We're meeting Monday evenings, and irregularly, and whenever we get a show.

MAGIC LECTURE

Mark Mason will coming to the Wunderground West in May. Don't be foolish. Start planning ahead.

KIDS CLASSES

This weekend we'll be teaching rubber band magic at the Wunderground Magic Academy. Because it's a holiday weekend, if you want to bring a friend we offer a one time class fee of $20.

GUY WON

Thanks to your votes, Guy Copeland won the Big Shot Live comedy contest and is going to Hollywood! Here's what he wrote:
THANKS for voting and keeping in the Top-5 all week.
The producers selected me as this weeks winner and called me about 8:30 pm.
They fly me out on Tuesday, gig me some where Wednesday, and I'll return home Thursday.
That's all I know so far....

And that's the last anyone heard from him.

Take care,
Paul
