Life is a Tabouret

February 21, 2008

Hi, this is Paul from Wunderground Magic, Inc. with another dazzling installment of your very own magical news. Cut this out and use it to decorate your magic workshop or line your rabbit and dove cages.

RUMBLINGS

Rumor has it that another magic shop will be opening soon in Garden City, but you know how rumors are. I hear of walls being built, painting being done, and cases being moved; but no one has ever actually seen anyone in there. Very strange.

KIDS CLASSES

This week's kids class is an introduction to card magic. Pop out and practice pasteboard prestidigitation with the pros. We'll see you Saturday mornings at 10AM.

ADULT WORKSHOP

The next adult workshop will be a presentation by our special guest, Jim the Balloon Man. Jim will teach the fine art of balloon sculpting. The workshops are held the first Tuesday of every month which, this month, is March 4, from 6:30 until 8. Celebrate the election season by doing something useful with all that hot air.

BIG STUFF

If you've been in the store recently you may have noticed a few new items.

First is the Tabouret, this is a big illusion for vanishing a person suspended above the stage. There's a video of John Sterlini using the Tabouret to vanish Hooper, the Piston's mascot. If you're thinking of adding big illusions to your act this is tremendously versatile for reasons I can't go into here.

Next up (literally) is a Harbin chair suspension made by Bill Smith. There's no video showing Hooper levitating with this one, so you could be the first. If you look this up online, you'll find raves about how this is the "Rolls Royce" of chair suspensions. Personally, I like it because it's industrial strength and can float a grown adult, not just a child.

Looking for something more affordable? How about a strait jacket or a guillotine or even a Princess Flying Carpet. Take your magic to the next level.

Finally, if you work with animals, we have a vanishing dove cage. A version of this was recently seen on Impossible Magic, featuring the commercial of Wunderground Magic, just in case you missed it.

MAGICAL HAPPENINGS

Abbott's 29th annual close up convention is on March 7 & 8. There are lectures by Jim Miller, Marc Oberon, Kostya Kimlat and a Saturday night gala show. For details, call Abbott's at 269-432-3235

Those wacky guys over in Ann Arbor are hosting Michigan Magic Day. This year it's been declared to be April 19, and there will be a magical event the likes of which have never been previously seen at the Ypsilanti High School. Hank Moorehouse hosts with contests for stage and close up. There will also be lectures, vendors (just maybe the Wunderground might be there), and a magical spectacular. For more information surf over to www.aamagic.org

Finally, don't miss the last segment of Impossible Magic on March 1 on My TV 20. Check your listings.

Take care,
Paul
