Everything you know is false

January 24, 2008

Hi, this is Paul, from Wunderground Magic, and Tim, from the soon to be Wunderground Magic West, keeping you up to date with the latest in magical news, weather, and sports.

THE RUMORS ARE TRUE

No, not the rumor about Dave and the super model - the one about the missing magic shop in Garden City. Tim and I have been conspiring, and we have a plan to open the Wunderground Magic West. If everything goes smoothly, we should have access to store space at the beginning of February and be open for business by spring. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but I really, really appreciate all the support that's made this possible.

DO YOU WANT TO BE A MAGICIAN OR DO YOU JUST WANT TO DO TRICKS?

There's a gap between performing a few tricks and becoming a magician. To bridge that gap Wunderground Magic, in cooperation with a cast of working performers, wants to help transform you into a magical entertainer. We'll be teaching performance technique including acting, staging, character, costuming, sound, and presentation. This class will be open to students thirteen years and older who have already completed at least six magic classes.

Once we're ready, we'll get out of the classroom and onto the stages – taking our show on the road to nursing homes, children's hospitals, and other venues. Reserve your space now.

KIDS CLASSES

Magic classes for children, aged 7 to 13, are taught every Saturday at 10AM at the store. The cost is $75 for six classes, and the schedule is posted on the web site at http://www.wundergroundmagicshop.com/Calendar.htm

PRESS

The Mirror newspaper recently ran an article about the shop. Check it out.

FEATURED MAGIC

For those of you who like creating your own card effects but have a hard time finding the right gaffs, we’ve recently acquired a distributor’s entire supply of CAJ decks. This is a deck of gaffed cards such as misprinted, miscolored, unusual, and bizarre cards. The enclosed booklet includes the following effects: Reverse Printed Flush Deck, Infinite Zeros, Impossible Bet, Beverly Hills Queen, Cute Kings, 3 Card Monte, and many more.

In you’re looking for something larger, we have card castle productions. Show a bag empty, then reach inside and pull out a castle made of cards, seven layers deep. You can repeat three times and use it as a card revelation.

IF YOU GIVE A MAGICIAN ENOUGH ROPE, HE’LL DO A MAGIC TRICK

Be sure to attend the next adult workshop, Feb 5 from 6:30 to 8PM. Our topic will be rope magic. Come out and learn some of the magic tricks you can do with a length of rope, a pair of scissors, and a complete set of hands.

As an added feature, we’re going to play “Stump the Sorcerer.” Bring us your unusual props - that bundle of coins your eccentric uncle gave you but never explained, that trunk you bought off the internet from a site that disappeared the following week, or anything from that box of stuff in the basement that you’ve forgotten how to use. Our panel of experts will attempt to explain what it is, how it works, and what it means.

For the March workshop, we're presenting beginning Balloon Sculpture – for those with little or no experience in twisting balloons. Add a new feature to your magic show to offer your clients. This class will introduce the basics of twisting the long balloon into recognizable one-balloon animals, i.e. poodle dogs, giraffes, rabbits, swans, dachshunds, etc. Bring your own balloons or balloons will be supplied for the class and available to purchase to take home for further practice. This will be a hands-on class. If time permits, basic balloon hats will also be introduced. Class will be taught by Jim Tait, AKA Professor Bloono, who has been twisting balloons in the Detroit area for over forty years.

BUILDING MAGIC

Teller has often lamented, "to compose a new tune in magic, you don't just write the notes, you have to build the piano." For those of you who would like to create large magic illusions and custom pieces, but don’t have the time, talent, experience, and tools to do it yourself, Wunderground Magic is proud to introduce The Hermetic Circle, a builder of custom magical props. Contact the store for more details.
