Special It's Not Underwear, It's Wunder Wear Editi
August 4, 2008
Hey, Paul here from Wunderground Magic with the latest edition of your irregularly scheduled insight behind the velvet curtains of the magic scene.
EVENTS
There are two major events this week that you should already be planning to attend. The first is the Clawson Car Show and Magical Extravaganza on Saturday August ninth from noon until seven, and the second is Magic Week in Colon , Michigan (which is actually only the last half of the week, because they wanted to make sure there would be time for your regularly scheduled Wunderground Academy Magic Workshop on Tuesday evening.)
The Clawson Car Show (and Magical Extravaganza) is an annual event where the Lions Club of Clawson tries to recreate that crazy clown car comedy classic by seeing how many classic cars they can cram into a city the size of Clawson . There are cars parked in the middle of parking lots and streets, up on light posts, in living rooms, and I’ve even volunteered to stash a few dozen of them in the subterrain chambers beneath the Vast Wunderground Empire. And as you’ve probably realized by now, any excuse for Clawson to throw a party is also an excuse for us to put on a magic show. The cars are really expensive, so I’ve been toying with ideas like cutting them in half, crushed and restored, making them disappear, or just driving my flying car blindfolded through the middle of the crowd. You’ll have to come out to see what we came up with.
Before you do that though, you really should head over to Colon , Michigan to experience Magic Week and Abbott’s Annual Get-together. Colon’s goes one further in the clown car comedy classic by taking a city less than half the size of Clawson and cramming it with magicians for four days (despite having no hotels and inadequate air conditioning in the town’s theater which doubles as a high school.) I would give directions, but frankly every time I’ve ever tried to go there myself I end up getting lost, so my advice is to invest in a GPS device. Just make sure you leave a trail of breadcrumbs so you can find your way back to the car show on Saturday.
MAGIC WORKSHOP
Before you leave town for Magic Week, be sure to stop in the shop on Tuesday, August fifth, for our Monthly Adult Magic Workshop which is held from 6:30 until 8PM in the fabulous Wunderground Theater and Front Entryway. This month our topic is going to be Mental Magic, which will cover such important topics as how to drive a car blindfolded through a crowd of densely packed people, and how to find your way to a obscure, hidden destination (such as Colon) using only the powers of your mind (and about fifty dollars worth of GPS equipment.) You won't want to miss this workshop, but then after you take it you'd already know that.
KIDS CLASSES
In case you skipped everything in the previous part of this message, and just jumped to the topics you’re actually interested in, there will be a Car Show in Clawson this Saturday, August ninth. We will be having magic classes as normal from 10AM to 11, but be warned that you may have trouble finding a place to park. I suggest driving your old car that day and just parking it right in the middle of Main Street . That’s what everyone else will be doing. Afterward stick around for popcorn, and the Car Show, and some great magic.
YOU’RE PROBABLY WUNDERING ABOUT THE TITLE
We’ve got lots of great magic and juggling and puppets in the shop, but if you look around you may have noticed what all the best dressed magicians are wearing – no it’s not top hat and tails, it’s our new line of Wunder Wear. It looks just like a normal t-shirt with strange magical decoration, but what you may not notice is that it really is just a normal t-shirt with strange magical decorations. (The gimmicked ones will be in the next batch, but don’t tell anyone I tipped you.) Stop by and pick up a t-shirt for yourself and a few for your family. They make great Christmas and Hanukkah gifts and perfect treats for Halloween.
If you’re looking for a way to pull a rabbit out of a hat, we have rabbit-in-a-hat puppets in two styles. We also have plush rabbits and top hats in a variety of shades of black. They look great with a Wunderground t-shirt.
Marlo has a new book out, which is pretty amazing for a guy who has been dead longer than most of my material. _Cardially_Yours_ is Volume Two of Magic, Inc.'s Marlo Trilogy. The dealer hype proclaims “It’s an anthology of card magic like no other,” but then they really didn’t have to say anything after saying “Marlo” did they?
Theory11 is sending us Smoke and Mirrors decks. Yes, I know I wasn’t supposed to say anything about them over the internet, but just within the past week they changed their policy so now select dealers can make internet sales of Theory11 products. Check out their web site. They make fun, exciting stuff, and I’m looking forward to these decks.
Speaking of web sites, I’m pleased to report that we’ve finally made the first web sale of our own. Okay, it was to my mom, but I’m sure she’s so happy with her new Wunderground t-shirt that she’ll forgive me – eventually. Check out our web site www.wundergroundmagicshop.com for more news, magic, juggling, pictures, performances, and fun.
Until next time, this is Paul wishing you a magic and amazement and wunder!
Take care, Paul
