September 11, 2008

Welcome to another edition of the news from the Wunderground. It's been an exciting week here at The Vast Wunderground Empire. We acquired yet another magic shop and are overflowing with new DVD's, props, and equipment. Details to follow, but first let's talk about the party!

PARTY

This Saturday, September 13th, there will be a party in downtown Clawson, featuring a barbecue, bands, bounce houses, a dunk tank, beer tasting, magic, and good times.

But all is not well in the quiet hamlet of Clawson. The spectacular performance involving Keith Stickley and "way too much heavy equipment" had to be canceled because Keith was caught in the middle of a hurricane. I know, I know, it sounded like a lame excuse when we heard it too, because what kind of magician can't fly through hurricanes???

So come out anyway and see our performers perform, enjoy the great food, and explore downtown Clawson. It will be Saturday from 3 until 7PM.

I CAN'T GIVE MONEY AWAY

In the last newsletter I promised to give ten percent off to anyone who asked for it during the week of Labor Day. Anyone care to guess how many people asked for it? (If you guess, correctly I'll give you ten percent off.)

So, I'm thinking that maybe you really want to support your favorite magic shop by paying full price, and I appreciate it. I don't know, but personally I'd really rather have you use the discount and get more stuff.

Since it was such a tremendous success last time, I've decided to extend the offer through the entire month of September. Between now and October first, all you have to do is ask to get ten percent off the total purchase price on your order. Remember, the magic words are "Paul, give me ten percent off!"

AFFILIATE PROGRAM

But I can hear you saying, "Paul, they're foreclosing on my McMansion; I've lost my job as CEO of Fannie Mae; and that part time gig running monte on the streets of Detroit isn't playing so well. How can I make a lot of money from Wunderground doing, well, practically nothing?"

I'm glad you asked.

Join our affiliate program! If you sign up, and someone uses your name when they make a purchase at Wunderground Magic in Clawson, we'll give you store credit for ten percent of the total amount of their purchase (excluding tax, title, license, fees, and all that other fine print stuff.)

Here's how it works:
1) Sign up! (If we don't have your name you won't get the credit. You can sign up through email, in person, postal mail, FedEx, or any other method that works for you.) All we need is your name and contact information (address, phone number, or email)
2) Recommend us to your friends. (I'd suggest performing some amazing magic, and when they beg you to find out how they too can be an awesome magician just like you, tell them about Wunderground Magic.)
3) Tell your friends the magic words (hint: "Paul, Joe Bob told me to tell you to give me ten percent off.") They will get ten percent off, and you'll get store credit. (Of course, if your name isn't Joe Bob he'll get the credit, and you won't.)
4) Come to the Wunderground and spend your hard earned loot.

It's a great way to finance that Tambouret Illusion you've had your eye on.

SPEAKING OF THE TAMBOURET

Our basement is filling up with more illusions even as I type. We have the Tambouret (for vanishing a person); the Hindu Sword Basket (which involves people vanishing, appearing, and being impaled on swords); Boy to Rabbit (transform a boy from the audience into a rabbit); Nightclub Illusion (a production of a person that can be performed up close and surrounded); Flying Carpet (a suspension); a Chair Suspension, and a French Guillotine. And those are just the ones I can talk about.

DVDs

If you've been on MySpace, you may have seen this announcement from Magic Mike:
We have in the store "Conjuring Cola," new and used Jay Sankey DVDs, "iVanish" and "Flow" from the big name Websites, lots of Michael Ammar DVDs on card and coin magic, teaching DVDs on the "Ambitious Card," "Water to Beer" and much, much more!

The "much, much more" is over a thousand dollars worth of used DVD's. Some from suppliers I've agreed not to mention in any internet advertising. It's a once in a lifetime deal. Get them while they last.

STARS OF MAGIC IS BACK IN PRINT!

If you know this book, I don't need to say any more. It's back in print, not yet officially released, and I have six copies. (Actually, I just sold one while writing this paragraph. Now I only have five copies left.)

TRICK OR TREAT STATION

Clawson is looking for businesses to sponsor a "Trick of Treat Station" for a Halloween Trail at Clawson City Park on Oct 18th from 6 - 8pm.

Children dressed in costume, and accompanied by an adult, will be trick or treating along the wood chip trail in the park. Businesses will have a designated area that may be as extravagant, or not, as you would like. As an example you may choose a theme of pirates and dress like pirates handing out candy, or build props to reflect a ship, plank, etc to hand out candy.

Now, how can we pass up an offer like that? I was going to go out on a limb here and suggest our theme be "magic." Dress like magicians and produce candy, but make sure the costume is kid appropriate and not too scary.

If you'd like to be involved in Wunderground Magic's Trick or Treat Station, call the store or email to let me know.

LAUER'S CLOSING

Finally, if you've ever been to Lauer's Costumes and Novelties on the east side, you'll know what a great resource they've been for magic, juggling, and costumes; but now, like too many other stores, they're shutting their doors for good.

I've purchased most of their magic inventory, including six rabbit suits and window displays. They still have some great costumes, store fixtures, and costume accessories, but they've decided not to stay open through Halloween, so if there's something you want, get there quickly.

Take care,
Paul
