Labor Day Wizard Weekend Edition?

August 29, 2008

Hi, this is Paul from Wunderground Magic with another exciting installment of incredible news predictions that haven't even happened yet!

As you know this weekend is Labor Day, the traditional end of summer, unless the shadow sees his groundhog, in which case we all get six more days off work - or something like that. Personally, I labored enough just writing that joke, so I intend to take the day off to work on new material. Come out to the shop to see what I've discovered.

ADULT WORKSHOP

Our next adult workshop will be held Tuesday, September 2, from 6:30PM until 8 at the Wunderground Magic Academy, which doubles as the front of the store.

The topic this month will be close-up magic. Renowned magician, hilarious comedian, outstanding teacher, sometime demonstrator, and all round nice guy Dave Foydel will share his expertise with magic that happens in a close-up and personal setting using everyday props.

KIDS MAGIC CLASSES

It’s back to school time, and that means it’s time to gather your wands, round up your circles, and head over to Wunderground Magic for magic classes. Our children’s classes run continuously every Saturday morning at 10 o’clock. $75 will get you a punch card good for six classes anytime throughout the year, as well as a cool case, performance surface, magic wand pen, and other awesome stuff. Sign up today before classes fill up.

BARBECUE AND BLOCK PARTY

Once again Clawson is throwing a party, and as you know, that's one of our excuses to put on a show. This time we have something really amazing, colossal, stupendous, and spectacular in store for you. I can't give away too much yet, but let's just say it involves Keith Stickley and way too much heavy machinery. Come out and watch what may very well be his final performance.

The party is right in downtown Clawson on September 13, between 3 and 7PM. Watch our performers perform, our magicians magish, our jugglers juggle, and our wizards do whatever it is that they do.

PERFORMERS CLASSES

Canceled for Labor Day, but we will be meeting every other Monday.

Our next performance will be September 13 at the Clawson Barbecue and Block Party!

WHO WANTS TO BE A MAGICIAN? CONTEST

Contestants will be judged according to the following criteria:
1) World's Longest Card Trick: How many “Pick a Card” tricks can you do in one minute?
2) World's Oldest Card Trick: New ways to use the vintage playing cards now in stock.
3) World's Best Magic Effect: How should we know? We work at the Wunderground.
4) World's Most Obscure Trick: Using props, presentation, and sleights no one has heard of.
5) World's Most Dangerous Trick: Points will be deducted for each missing limb.

Each week our expert panel of top judges will eliminate one customer until there is only one customer left. The winning customer will receive...come to think of it, that's a pretty dumb idea for a contest. Forget it.

How about if instead I give you 10% off all purchases during the week of Labor Day just for reading this far?

NEW MAGIC

New issues of Genii and Magic magazines came in earlier this week they're already almost gone. Get yours while they last.

We have Vintage Playing Cards in stock. Collect all the designs including Fan Backs, Steamboats, Squeezers, and Circle Backs.

Discover "Entourage," the effect Criss Angel calls "@#%$& awesome!" David Regal says "Bravo!" And after witnessing it first hand, Cyril said "This Kills!"

Another great effect is "Bikers," based on the premise that the joker in a Bicycle deck isn't just any guy; he’s the King of Spades.

Halloween isn't too far off. If you're planning to haunt your house, we have "Haunted Magic," "Spook Show in Your Parlor," "Spikes through Head," "Methods of the Macabre," and much, much more.

If you're looking for the perfect party trick, check out "Hospitality," an "any drink called for" effect that includes a video of Lance Burton's presentation.

Finally, why not purchase that big prop you’ve always wanted? We have a Tambouret, which will allow you to vanish a person; a Hindu Sword Basket, which will allow you to vanish a person; and a Guillotine, which will allow you to vanish a whole bunch of people when you ask for a volunteer.

Take care,
Paul
