January 2, 2009

Hi, this is Paul from Wunderground Magic with the most amazing, colossal, stupendous, awesome magic newsletter we’ve put together so far this year! Check out our classes, be amazed at our invisible web site, watch the Masters of Illusion, and discover what's new at Wunderground Magic.

KIDS MAGIC CLASSES

It’s not named after warts on a pig, nor will you need to find platform nine and three quarters to get here, but if you really want to learn the art of magic the Wunderground Magic Academy is the place for you! Every Saturday at 10 AM highly skilled magicians mysteriously appear at the corner of Fourteen Mile and Main Street in downtown Clawson to pass on their ancient secrets of wonder, lore, and mystery. Each week you’ll learn new skills to astound your friends, befuddle your enemies, and impress complete strangers. So sign up now to get your wand and magic case and begin your journey into the world of magic!

ADULT MAGIC WORKSHOP

For those of you fourteen and over the Wunderground Magic Academy holds Adult Magic Workshops the first Tuesday of each month from 6:30 until 8 PM. This coming Tuesday, January 5 we will be learning card effects, and the best part is that you don’t even need to own a deck of cards – we supply everything you need for one low workshop fee of only $20.

AND IF YOU LIKED THAT

By now you should know that somewhere in this newsletter is a magic word that will entitle you to ten percent off your purchases at Wunderground Magic for the month of January. Unfortunately, it’s not here, but keep reading. I’m pretty sure it’s in here somewhere.

WEB SITE

For those of you who check my web site religiously and tell me everyday that the calendar hasn’t been undated – STOP IT!

Then again, if you have an event you’d like to have listed, without all the clutter of any regularly scheduled programs that might be going on around the store, now is your big chance.

MASTERS OF ILLUSION

Speaking of events, Monday, January 5 at 9 PM is the world premiere of the new magic series “Masters of Illusion” on myNetworkTV (TV 20 in Detroit). This series is being produced by Gay Blackstone, who gave us the World Magic Awards. The shows will be filmed in front of live audiences without camera or computer tricks, and will feature over 70 top magicians including Jeff McBride, Dan Sperry, Rick Thomas, Ed Alonzo and local notables including our very own Arron Radatz and The Amazing Jonathan. (And if you watch very, very closely, you may even see me during one or two of the commercials.)

DOCC HILFORD

Innovator, master performer, genius - Docc Hilford has changed the face of mentalism and bizarre magick. He's not just weird, he's Weerd! Docc will be here at the Wunderground Magic Shop for a special workshop on February 10 following his Ring 22 lecture on February 9. Details to follow, but rumor has it they will include a new performance stage, an expanded 60,000 square feet of show area, and a pen for white tigers. (I have no idea how these rumors get out of control, but at least the part about Docc Hilford is true.)

WHAT'S IN A WORD?

Did I mention that somewhere in this newsletter there are secret words that will get you a discount on your purchases at Wunderground Magic? Keep reading. You’re getting closer.

True Astonishments is one of the most important projects to be released in the last 30 years.

SOMETHING FUN

While rummaging around in the dungeons of the Vast Wunderground Empire, we came across the attached ancient manuscript that purports to contain the names of thirty famous magicians. Based on the wording, I suspect this dates back to the times of Romig, before we were forced to go underground. So even though it purports to contain the names of magicians living and deceased, you'd be hard pressed to find many of the magicians in the upcoming Masters of Illusion series. Instead, I recommend spending an afternoon gazing at the posters at Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum in Farmington Hills while filling this out. If you do manage to find them all, bring it in for a special prize. (And no, Dave, the mysterious "X" isn't one of the answers.)

AND THE MAGIC WORD IS...

You didn't really expect it to be that easy did you? Go back. You passed it.

Take care,
Paul
