School's out! Magic's in!
May 28, 2010
A big "thank you" to everyone who came out to see me perform at the Black Lotus as part of Touring the Town on Tuesdays this past month. I had a lot of fun and the good fortune to perform for you without a display case in the way. The next opportunity you have to see me perform live (outside of the shop, of course) will be at the Clawson Farmer's Markets on June 6, July 11, July 25, and August 8. It's a great chance to get fresh food and see a magic show. That way if you don't like the show, there will be plenty of ripe tomatoes nearby.
Hello, I'm Paul from Wunderground Magic with fresh magic for your summer satisfaction, because there's nothing sadder than spending the summer with stale sponge spheres. Why not pick up a cool new trick to amaze your audience?
This month I'm excited about a new Tuesday Tutorial where we explore entertainer arts, such as juggling, face painting, and balloon animals. This is the kind of material that could be used to create an act in itself or as an extension to your regular performance for additional income. The first Tuesday of the month (June 1) will be the new Entertainer Tutorial, the second Tuesday (June 8) will be the Adult Magic Tutorial, and the third Tuesday (June 15) will be the Advanced Magic Tutorial. Come to the Wunderground and help us help you become more entertaining.
Finally, before getting into the body of the newsletter I want to take an opportunity to thank everyone who came out to help celebrate my birthday and enjoy the savings. Rest assured that everyone involved with the announcement has been fined, flogged, and fired , and it will never happen again. (A birthday that is - I may still continue to offer discounts from time to time and may leave my computer unattended for long periods of time so people can sneak in through the back and abuse it, but I don't intend to get any older anytime soon.) *** Tuesday Tutorials
Make a date with the Wunderground for Tuesday Tutorials on Tuesdays from 6:30PM until 8PM in the secret dungeons deep under the halls of Wunderground Magic where the shadows lie. Tuesday Tutorials are open to those 14 and older. Reservations are not necessary (though you may entertain reservations of your own.) Pay at the door. Entertainer Tutorial First Tuesday - June 1 Topic: Beginning Juggling
Learn to juggle scarves as they flutter through the air at the speed of - well - a parachute. That gives you time to react and judge the position of the scarf so that you can concentrate on learning juggling patterns.
Cost is just $20, which includes a set of scarves. Adult Magic Tutorial Second Tuesday - June 8 Topic: Impromptu Magic
If someone came up to you and said, "You're a magician. Do a trick." What would you do? This month we explore magic that you can do anytime, anywhere with ordinary objects.
Cost is just $20, which includes all necessary props except money. Advanced Adult Workshop - Third Tuesday - June 15 Topic: Money Magic Part II - Mo' Money
We'll take off where we left off last month with several effects including switches, restorations, penetrations, transpositions, vanishes, appearances, and more. It's solid material that you can mix and match to create cool routines. If it's their money in play, you'll have a captive audience.
Cost is $30 and does not include any props Children’s Magic Classes Every Saturday morning from 10 until 11 AM
Classes for children ages 7 through 13 are held in the Wunderground Magic Academy. When you sign up you will get a wand, a performance mat, and a box to hold the magic props we will give you as you progress through the course. Because children are active, we use a punch card system, so they can get all the lessons you've paid for, even if they can't come every week. Sign up today because the one who must not be named isn't getting any weaker. Thursday Sessions Every Thursday Evening
We’re open until 8 on Thursday evenings. Come out and share, learn, watch, or just discuss magic. Bring your own props. We’ll supply common items such as cards, rope, rubber bands, mats, and a mysterious place to gather. *** Events Flea Market at Wunderground West

"Winner - The Best Magic Kit" - International Magicians Society Forgetful Freddie - Fantastic Kid Show Favorite is Back Again! - $139.99
Tell the kids about Freddie always forgeting his head. One day Freddie went to school headless, pretty forgetful!
The teacher blew up a balloon, painted a face on it and attached it to a bow tie. “Hi, meet Mr. Airhead Freddie”
Freddie thought "if I get back my head I’ll never forget it again.” POP goes the balloon and BACK comes his head! Kids go CRAZY!
Lift off the head. The balloon/face is already attached to the bow tie. Set it in place. Vanish his head in an envelope or paper bag. The balloon pops his head is back! *** And Finally
The Wunderground Magic Street Performers and Rubber Chicken Wranglers is off to an auspicious start. As one member remarked "'em chickens 'er bouncy thangs."
The next event for The Wunderground Magic Street Performers and Rubber Chicken Wranglers will be Cinema in the Streets. Held right smack in the middle of the streets of Clawson on Saturday, July 10. This year they will be showing Ghostbusters, so imagine effects you can do with a haunted theme. I'm going to build a "Slimer." If you have an unlicensed nuclear reactor you can wear on your back, that would be great, and if you have a forty foot Stay-Puff Marshmellow Man costume bring that too.
Seriously, if you would like to work the crowd from five in the evening until it gets dark enough to show the movie send me your email address, and I will let you know more specifics of the events as they are about to occur.
The movie is free, but if you don't bring your own chairs you may end up sitting on pavement. The entertainment is free as well, but I have awesome Wunderground shirts for the performers. The jokes are free and worth every penny.
Take care, Paul
