We Ain't Afraid of No Street Closings

July 1, 2010

While most cities are rolling out the carpet to welcome new businesses, Clawson is going to close its streets - first to have a parade on July 5th, then again July 10th to show a free movie, and then yet again August 14th for a car show. I know it's a terrible inconvenience for the people who can't take the interstates that go right by us in every single direction, but this is a city built on entertainment. It's more important that you enjoy yourself while you're here than actually be able to get through to Troy or Birmingham or wherever you're really going.

Hello, I'm Paul from Wunderground Magic where we're trying to revisit those heady days of yore when people came to Clawson for the "pleasure palace" atmosphere (only now we have craft brewers rather than bathtub gin.) I'm going to be on the streets with the Mighty Wunderground Street Performers and Rubber Chicken Wranglers the evening of July 10 for Cinema in the streets. It promises to be a spectacular extravaganza of magical entertainment followed by a free showing of the original Ghostbusters movie. Then the next morning I'll be over at the Clawson City Park for the Farmer's Markets on July 11. If you can't see me live, and are lucky enough to own a television, I'll be taping a show on July 8 that will be aired (cabled) later this month. Watch this space for details.

In other news: You've given us great feedback about the Secret Sale and the Discount Dungeon, but I keep hearing "What about new stuff?" Now, frankly I thought that's what the whole main floor of the shop was for, so I've arranged for even newer, new stuff. Some of this stuff is so new, it hasn't even been advertised yet. Some of this stuff is so new it hasn't been performed on television yet. Some of this stuff is so new, it hasn't even been invented yet (but we keep that stuff in the dungeons.) I'm not talking about a few tricks here and there either this is thousands of dollars of new stuff. We call them the First Wuns.

This month we have a special instructor, legendary card worker, and cheat , Dan Fishman. (Though we strongly recommend you only use this for entertainment purposes.) Learn about false dealing, such as second dealing, bottom dealing and other kinds of crooked deals; as well as crooked gambling devices, strategies of card cheats, false shuffles, marked cards, and other cheating gaffs.

Children’s Magic Classes
Every Saturday morning from 10 until 11 AM

Classes for children ages 7 through 13 are held in the Wunderground Magic Academy. When you sign up you will get a wand, a performance mat, and a box to hold the magic props we will give you as you progress through the course. Because children are active, we use a punch card system, so they can get all the lessons you've paid for, even if they can't come every week. Sign up today because the one who must not be named isn't getting any weaker.
Thursday Sessions
Every Thursday Evening

We’re open until 8 on Thursday evenings. Come out and share, learn, watch, or just discuss magic. Bring your own props. We’ll supply common items such as cards, rope, rubber bands, mats, and a mysterious place to gather.

Wunder What's New?
See it first! Get it first! Do it first!

This month we're excited to introduce "First Wuns," an opportunity for you to preview new magic before its wide release. We have a special shipment of ground breaking, state of the art magical props that will have you performing the latest and greatest magical effects before anyone else. You might see some of these items advertised in magazines or on the internet in the upcoming weeks.

But we only have one of each, and they're only here for thirty days after that they vanish and you get to preview more new stuff.

Each month we'll introduce new items for your consideration. If you like them, we may order more later, but for now they are limited, and we've already had a fight in the shop over who gets the only copy of The Hawk.

There's a lot of effects, and they're not for beginners, so I'm just going to list what we have.

And Finally

The Wunderground Magic Street Performers and Rubber Chicken Wranglers is off to an auspicious start. As one member remarked "'em chickens 'er bouncy thangs."

The next event for The Mighty Wunderground Magic Street Performers and Rubber Chicken Wranglers will be Cinema in the Streets. Held right smack in the middle of the streets of Clawson on Saturday, July 10. This year they will be showing Ghostbusters, so imagine effects you can do with a haunted theme. I built a window illusion that looks like a translucent "Slimer" floating in mid air.

If you would like to work the crowd from five in the evening until it gets dark enough to show the movie send me your email address, and I will let you know more specifics of the events as they are about to occur.

The movie is free, but if you don't bring your own chairs you may end up sitting on pavement. The entertainment is free as well, but I have awesome Wunderground shirts for the performers. The jokes are free and worth every penny.

Take care,
Paul
