Clawson Car (and Magic) Show
August 2, 2010
Welcome to another astounding edition of your Notes from Wunderground, where even the most mundane muck becomes marvelous modern miracles. This month we have a spectacular event lined up for you as Clawson once again closes its streets to present the Clawson Car (and Magic) Show! Now, I know you’re thinking, “Paul, why would they close the street for a car show? Why not just set out some lawn chairs, crack open a cold one, and watch the cars that are already driving by like you do?” I’m glad you asked, and so here, without further ado, are Wunderground Magic’s Top Ten Reasons to attend the Clawson Car (and Magic) Show:
10) Plenty of free parking, even if you don’t drive a classic car 9) Stupendous entertainment 8) A Lions Club - with real lions (I’m pretty sure) 7) A disk jockey – with a whole radio station of selections 6) Festival food 5) Gorgeous weather 4) Special guests 3) A magic shop owner in a giant rabbit costume 2) Cool classic cars 1) The Mighty Wunderground Street Performers and Rubber Chicken Wranglers
Hello, I'm Paul from Wunderground Magic with more magical excitement than you can shake a staff at. Did you know that Abbott's Get Together is right around the corner? Actually, it's a few corners down just over in Colon, Michigan (which other than being The Magic Capital of the World is best noted for it's inaccessibility.) Colon is a tiny little village in the middle of Amish country, about a mile square, with a population of just about a thousand people, but it contains three magic shops. Every year, on the first week of August, magicians gather from all over the world to attend the Get Together. There are stage shows, and close up demonstrations, new product introductions, and magic in the streets. If you have a chance to go, it's highly recommended. You never know who you'll run into just walking around town. If you go, take a good GPS and make hotel reservations in Coldwater, because Colon is too small to have lodging of its own.
Did you know that before DVD's and VHS tapes there were these things called "books" that magicians used to use to learn their craft? I've just picked up a mother lode of old, out of print, and rare magic books. There are well over 400 books on just about every topic in magic. Some are affordable paperback editions and some are deluxe collector's editions, but they all need a good home and someone who will read them and perform their material. Could that be you? *** Tuesday Tutorials

Classes for children ages 7 through 13 are held in the Wunderground Magic Academy. When you sign up you will get a wand, a performance mat, and a box to hold the magic props we will give you as you progress through the course. Because children are active, we use a punch card system, so they can get all the lessons you've paid for, even if they can't come every week. Classes are taught by an accomplished children's performer. Thursday Sessions Every Thursday Evening
We’re open until 8 on Thursday evenings. Come out and share, learn, watch, or just discuss magic. Bring your own props. We’ll supply common items such as cards, rope, rubber bands, mats, and a mysterious place to gather. *** Events Abbott's 73rd Magic Get Together...Aug 4,5,6,7 2010

Motor City Close-Up Convention
Save the dates November 12-14, 2010 for The Motor City Convention, featuring Danny Archer, Michael Vincent, Caleb Wiles, and Steven Youell. This year's line-up is awesome. They all do excellent magic. More information is on the website: http://www.johnlukamagic.com *** Wunder What's New? The End of the First Wuns
The owner of another magic shop in a small town on the western side of the state was so impressed with the deal that my supplier was giving us on brand new merchandise that he wanted in on it as well. As a result, the supplier is no longer going to be offering their "First Wuns," but we still have some of the new merchandise for 25% off while it lasts. Hurry, because we have to sent it back before the 9th.
But don't worry, there will be another equally spectacular deal, that I'm not going to announce in this newsletter where it might fall into the wrong hands. This time you'll just have to come into the shop. (And if you go to the Abbott's Get Together tell Greg that Paul made a deal with his supplier to give away brand new magic props for free! Of course, they're really only 25% off, but don't tell Greg that.)
And don't forget about the used book collection I just purchased. What I might not have mentioned is that it came with an enormous number of magic props as well. I haven't had time to inventory it all, so watch for it to come out a little at a time. In the meantime, if there's anything special you're looking for, just ask. *** And Finally
Someone saw me scratching my head with a disembodied hand and decided I'd be the kind of speaker they wanted for a TED talk. I'm not sure what it means either, but my advice is to invest in publicity photos with disembodied hands.
In the meantime, you can learn more about TEDxDetroit and make plans to attend at the TEDx Detroit Website
TEDxDetroitTEDxDetroit 2010 will take place on Wednesday, September 29th, 2010 from 8:30am - 6:00pm. Attendance at TEDxDetroit is by application and invitation.
Take care, Paul
