Magical Mental Blocks Party
September 6, 2010
It's a party, and you're invited! On Saturday September 11, the Downtown Development Authority of Clawson presents its annual Block Party from 4pm – 8 pm. There will be games and entertainment and bands and magic in the streets of Clawson. This year we will be offering more games, more entertainment, and a pie eating contest. You can either come as you are, wear a rabbit suit, clown costume, or be really outrageous in your favorite kilt. (Guess which one I'll be wearing.)
Hello, I'm Paul from Wunderground Magic. Where we're busy toiling away on Labor Day to make sure you're the first one to know about all the mysterious knowledge that no one should ever know about. Did you know that "rhabdophobia" is the fear of magic, "automatonophobia" is the fear of ventriloquist’s dummies, and no one has ever been afraid of a juggler?
Have you had a good experience at Wunderground Magic? Tell your friends on sites like: Yahoo Local, Yelp, Citysearch, Merchant Circle, or Insider Pages. I'm looking forward to reading your reviews. And if you didn't have a good experience, remember we're Abbott's.
We're very excited that magician Michael Grasso made it into the semi-finals of America's Got Talent by performing a tabouret very similar to the one you see in the front window of Wunderground Magic. Pick one up for yourself and be on your way! *** Tuesday Tutorials
Make a date with the Wunderground for Tuesday Tutorials on Tuesdays from 6:30PM until 8PM in the decrepit dungeons deep beneath the corridors of Wunderground Magic, where shadows dwell. Tuesday Tutorials are open to those 14 and older. Reservations are not necessary (though you may entertain reservations of your own.) Pay at the door. Adult Magic Tutorial First Tuesday - Sept 7 Topic: Platform Magic
Platform Magic is designed for performances on a small stage for 30-40 people. This allows you to use magic to entertain at parties, group sales presentations, and small nightclubs.
$20 gets you into the dungeon classroom. Getting out is your problem. Entertainer Tutorial Second Tuesday -Sept 14 Topic: Escapes
Many people know that Houdini's last performance was here in Detroit, and that he died right here on October 31, 1926, but few people know that he made one of his most daring escapes from a packing crate that was nailed shut and thrown off the Belle Isle Bridge. We won't throw you off a bridge, but we will teach you to escape from ropes, chains, and other restraints. Bring your lock picks.
The class is just $20. Your final exam will be escaping from the dungeon. Advanced Adult Workshop - Third Tuesday - Sept 21 Topic: TBD
Arthur is back with new and exciting material for advanced students.
Cost is $30 Children’s Magic Classes Every Saturday morning from 10 until 11 AM
Classes for children ages 7 through 13 are held in the Wunderground Magic Academy. When you sign up you will get a wand, a performance mat, and a box to hold the magic props we will give you as you progress through the course. Because children are active, we use a punch card system, so they can get all the lessons you've paid for, even if they can't come every week. Classes are taught by an accomplished magician, children's performer, and all round good guy.. Thursday Sessions Every Thursday Evening
We’re open until 8 on Thursday evenings. Come out and share, learn, watch, or just discuss magic. Bring your own props. We’ll supply common items such as cards, rope, rubber bands, mats, and a mysterious place to gather.
We've had some great performers out this past month - Dan Fishman, magicians from Vegas, and there's a rumor that Michael Mode was here, though I didn't see him. Trade tricks or just settle in with a magical book from our dungeon library. *** Events Michigan Renaissance Festival, Weekends Aug 21 thru Oct 03

Explain Mr. Skeleton is constantly mixing things up. When you lift the case Mr. Skeleton's body is all mixed up. The kids yell & scream! After several times, the 'head' block is vanished from a handkerchief, and reappears in the correct position when the case is lifted.

Haunted Detroit Tours are back. At least I think they are. No one told me anything about them, no one asked if they could use the shop, and no one compensated me from last year's tours, but brochures mysteriously appeared on my counter one day this week. It looks like Wunderground Magic is the first stop, and I'm listed as a sponsor. Very strange. Could they have been placed there by ..... ghosts? See the website for more information
Take care, Paul
